Carolina Panthers right tackle Taylor Moton will miss the opening stretch of the upcoming regular season after medical staff diagnosed him late last month with a blood clot in his lung. The franchise officially placed the veteran offensive lineman on the reserve/non-football injury list on Tuesday.
Team officials confirmed the 31-year-old was immediately prescribed blood thinners following the discovery in late June. Carolina reported that Moton is responding favorably to his current medical regimen and remains under close daily supervision by the club’s training personnel. “Moton’s situation will take longer to resolve. He was diagnosed with a blood clot in his lung in late June,” the Panthers stated. The organization clarified that while “the treatment will cause him to miss regular season time, though he’s expected to return during the season.”
Moton, selected in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft, has anchored Carolina’s offensive line for nearly a decade. The durability anchor has made 128 starts across 145 career games during his tenure with the franchise, including starting 16 games last season.
The Panthers simultaneously announced cornerback Jaycee Horn has been placed on the non-football injury list due to a foot laceration requiring stitches, though Horn is anticipated to rejoin practice early in training camp.
